Walmart Donates $1,000 in a Continued Effort To Save Lives

On Friday, October 9th, the Cody Fire Department was presented with a $1,000 check from Walmart on State Route 3 in the town of Granby. This check will go towards a brand new Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) that will be placed into service soon and will serve yet another example of the Cody Volunteer Fire Department's determination to save lives and make a positive difference in the community. This generous donation was just one of many donations that have been dispersed across Central New York by the Walmart corporation.

Cody Engine 91 Responds to a Working Structure Fire in Volney

At approximately 1645 hours on Wednesday, July 8th, the Volney Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential fire on County Route 57. Volney Assistant chief Weldin arrived shortl after the initial dispatch and confirmed a working fire. Units from Cody, Granby, Phoenix and Fulton were requested and the fire was brought under control within 25 minutes. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

 

Cody Engine 91 Responds to a Motor Vehicle Accident w. Injuries

On Monday, May 17th, Cody Engine 91 was requested to the Phoenix Fire Distruct for a motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Route 481 just south of the 264 exit. Upon arrival, Engine 91 confirmed injuries to the sole occupant. Phoenix, Cody, Lakeside and Menter Ambulance extricated the patient after approximately thirty minutes. The patient was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY.

RIT Team Requests Volney Fire District

On Saturday, April 18th the Cody Fire Department's Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) was requested to Sting Ray Alley in the Volney Fire Distruct for a reported structure fire. Shortly after, Volney command confirmed a working fire, a second engine was requested from Cody for additional manpower. Units from Volney, Codey, Phoenix, Palermo and Fulton responded and had the fire under control within an hour. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Engine 91 Responds to Two Structure Fires

Engine 91, staffed by members from Cody, Granby and Volney responded as a special request to a reported vacant structure fire on Red School House Road in the town of Palermo. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire involvement at the rear of the structure. After a very difficult battle, units were able to control the blaze in approximately two hours.

As Engine 91 was returning to service, a second special request was made by the Pennellville Fire District for a barn fine on County Route 54. Upon arrival, incident command requested the engine to assist with fire supression and overhaul. Units operated for many hours due to the shear size of the barn and its contents. The barn, its contents and fifteen cattle were lost in the unfortunate fire.
